8-week MBSR course

GENERAL INFORMATION

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) has been created and developed by the University of Massachusetts Medical School, in the United States. Since 1979 up to now, more than 27.000 participants have taken the MBSR® protocol in Stress Reduction Clinic, offering a large sample for testing and validating the program in a scientific and rigorous manner.

The benefits of this method were so convincing that more and more insurance companies in the United States have included this program in their eligible treatment and prevention schemes. Nowadays, mindfulness has spread beyond the medical field, these methods finding their applicability in many fields: education, social sciences, personal development, business etc. They are currently used in many top companies such as Google, Apple, Intell, AOL or in the United States Army, European Commission and British Parliament.

The basic method of MBSR of focusing attention on body sensations, emotions, fluctuations of thoughts, breathing and sounds helps the practitioner to understand the intimate mechanisms of the mind and to learn how to adjust its functioning for improved wellbeing. The experiential and interactive course is conceived to ensure progressive development, providing a safe space for observation, experimentation and learning.

What do you need for a successful experience?

  • The course does not request special preliminary knowledge and skills. It is based on the experience and personal observation of the participants both during the sessions, home practice and in daily life.
  • MBSR outcomes are based on mobilising internal resources. Commitment to a daily practice of 45-60 minutes is expected when registering the course. While this requirement may seem difficult to achieve for some, it often proves to be easier than it looks, as the practice itself creates gradually the necessary space in our mind and life for the practice.
  • A quiet room for the daily practice, as much as possible
  • A yoga mat (or equivalent) for the mindful movements practice
